Amy Winehouse on NewporterJazz
Rest in Peace, at last 1983-2011

Some of Amy Winehouse's influences were Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan.  She was compared to Billie Holiday and Nina Simone.  Her musical influences were Jazz, R&b and Soul.  October 2003 the "Frank" release was introduced to the world.  "Frank" release was critically acclaimed for its strong jazz influences.

Winehouse would return more successful and famous in 2006 with the album "Back to Black," release.  This release would blend once again  jazz, soul, and this time rock and classic pop.  "Back to Black won five Grammys.

Amy Winehouse has joined the "Forever 27 club with music greats, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrisson (The Doors), Janis Joplin, Brian Jones (Rolling Stones), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana).  These are musicians that tragically died much too soon, with yet so much more left to give to us all.

How did Amy Winehouse die?  Some say drugs, alcohol, a failed marriage, perhaps a personal- self destructive lifestyle.  A broken heart from her unsuccessful relation with director Reg Traviss is the cause.  Some speculated eating disorders led to her demise, while others will claim all of the above contributed to her demise.  Perhaps in the end, her music and lyrics became her own self-fulfilling prophecy.
