"The Washing Machine"

A memorable experience is a drive from downtown Charleston, West Virginia on U.S. State Road 60, better known at the Midland Trail Scenic Highway.  U.S. 60 navigates through historic riverfront towns along the Kanawha River, such at Glen Ferris and Gauley Bridge.   Just east of the river town of Gauley Bridge, near mile marker 96 is a roadside park.  If one was not aware of this unique park alongside the Midland Trail, one would drive right by without ever experiencing this unique and special park.   This park features parking, picnic area, a wooden bridge strewn over a small creek, oh, and a spectacular water fall named Cathedral Falls.  This fall drops precipitously over 60 feet below from a collection of overhanging "stair-step" ledges, to create breath-taking cascading effects.  This waterfall park fits snugly within a cozy nature-made amphitheater.  As a result, the sounds of cascading waters echo and thunder melodiously much as a choir in a cathedral.    The water source that creates Cathedral Falls comes from the Cane Branch.  Locals refer to Cathedral Falls as "The Washing Machine", others simply refer to it as, "Spectacular".

Spend a few moments and enjoy Cathedral Falls in West Virginia, and always remember;....."Go Out And Enjoy"
